How To Plan Your 20x Points Shopping Trip!

A few people have been asking how to plan a shopping trip for Shopper's Drug Mart's bonus events, so I thought I would share how I do it!

Once you get into it, you will start to find your own preferences, so this is only a bit of guidance to get you started!

Look for sales!--Whether you are receiving bonus points or not, the bottom line is still minimizing your out of pocket expense when you shop! You're first stop should be checking the Weekly Matchups page to see what flyer sales will be going on during the event that can be matched with a coupon for additional savings.
Also be sure to check the flyer yourself for any items that may be a great deal for you even without a coupon, since all of our personal shopping needs will vary!
*If you don't receive flyers, you can check it online at ShoppersDrugMart.ca!
Mail in rebates are GOLD during 20x the points events as you will receive the points for purchasing, and will get fully reimbursed for your money spent later on...free points!

Check current Optimum bonus offers!--This is another great reason to have a peek through the flyer for your own personal needs! You may not have a coupon, but if you see something you need on sale that is part of a great Optimum points bonus offer, it could still work out to your advantage!
You can find all current bonus offers by checking out our Optimum Bonus Offers page!

Do the math!--Some flyer sales once combined with a coupon can be a great deal whether it was a bonus event or not, but some you may be on the fence about. You'll want to do the math of points vs. dollars to make sure that if you are buying something for $0.50 more than you would elsewhere, that you are coming out ahead more than that when all is said and done!

For example, today I did a 20x the points shop and purchased 3 tubs of Huggies wipes at $2.99 each, then used a $0.75 coupon on each making them $2.24. This is at least $0.75 more than I would typically pay for a tub of wipes, however, each tub awarded my Optimum account 2500 bonus points!

Lets do the math...

3 x $2.24 = $6.72 out of pocket.
3 x 2500 bonus points = 7500 Optimum points.
7500 Optimum points during Mega Redemption Event = $19.73 value!

It's almost as though I paid $6.72 now, for $19.73 worth of groceries later, AND got the wipes!

*NOTE*
Here are what your points are getting you depending on when you redeem...
(Based on 95,000 points redemption)
Regular points redemption will get you $1.00 for 558 points redeemed
Bonus points redemption will get you $1.00 for 475 points redeemed
Mega bonus points redemption will get you $1.00 for 380 points redeemed

Remember, the Shoppers Drug Mart Coupon Policy states that if you must spend a certain amount for a promotion (ie 20x the points when you spend $50.00 or more) then you must meet the threshold BEFORE coupons and taxes have been applied (except Free Product Coupons)!
This means that you can get your total over $50.00, then submit your coupons and pay LESS than the $50 while STILL getting the bonus points!
